Cranbrook takes it to the wire in season opener; falls to Livonia Clarenceville 54-52 in OT thriller.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (0-1) lost their season opener 54-52 to the Livonia Clarenceville Tigers (1-0) at home in overtime. The loss drops Cranbrook to 0-1 on the season, while Clarenceville remains undefeated on the young season.

This football matchup between former Metro Conference rivals honored a storied history going back to 1983. Going down to the wire after entering the overtime period, the last play of the game decided the contest.

QB Krish Upadhyay went 27-28 for 300 yards and 6 TD for the Cranes, Owen Steinke rushed for 66 yards and 1 TD, while Jacob Speller caught 8 passes for 202 yards for 5 TDs and rushed for another TD.

RB Elijah Craig led the Trojans effort, going 19 for 229 yards and 4 TD, while Jaylen Johnson went 18 for 122 yards and TD.

“I was very proud of our effort today,” said Cranes Head Coach Jonathan Clauss. “We played as a team and left it all out on the field.”

Cranbrook marches on to face Divine Child in their CHSL opener, while Clarenceville will face Whitmore Lake.
