Eisenhower grad Kadari Johnson is transferring to D1-FBS program, Texas-San Antonio
Eisenhower 2016 Slot Kadari Johnson capped his high school career with an incredible senior season in which the Eisenhower Eagles won their first playoff game since 2012. The 2015 playoff win over the favored Big Reds turned on a switch for the remaining Eisenhower players as returned in 2016 with a perfect regular season record and 3 playoff wins and was the first of two consecutive top 10 finishes in the state of Michigan.
Johnson was a speedy back out of the backfield who could hurt opposing teams with his speed and playmaking abilities.
Kadari Johnson while at SVSU wasn't able to leave an impact on the field as he was Redshirted as a freshman in 2016 and in 2017 missed the semester for eligibility purposes.
"I personally just felt that Texas was the best place for me to go back home and go play football in the state where I’m from," said Johnson. "I can be closer to family and close friends. I grew up down there and being in the heat and the environment is home to me."
With UTSA being a Division 1-FBS program and Johnson having ties already with the coaching staff, the transfer makes a lot of sense explained Johnson, "UTSA can provide a much wider opportunity athletically and academically. I felt like UTSA would be the perfect school to go to and pursue my career. In addition I have close family friends on their staff and they just hired a new head coach."
Kadari Johnson will be going from a Division II athlete to a Division I athlete and provided his thoughts on the transition, "In the back of my head I always felt that my hard work that I put It should be effected on to a bigger stage. All my life I wanted to play at a Division 1 school and doing that is a dream come true."
Johnson continued with his plans to excel at UTSA, "I need to keep progressing in the weight room and in the classroom before I get there."
With Johnson being familiar with Texas high school football and UTSA loaded with Texas athletes, he won't be shocked by the work ethic and culture of the program, "Texas football is very serious down there and I know the players out of Texas are hard workers, day in and day out. I have to work just as hard as them to become great, which will be tough. I feel like I’ll have a great time competing with them and it should be fun."
