Game Preview and Prospects The D Zone will be seeing at Chippewa Valley and Detroit Catholic Central (Story)
The 2021 football season is slated to kickoff on August 26th at noon and the action will not stop until Saturday evening. Most of the top 25 teams face tough competition this week and some winning streaks may be snapped early this season.
Both teams enter with high expectations and are annually two of the best teams in Michigan.
Below are the prospects we're aware of entering the game. We look forward to discovering more talent.
Detroit Catholic Central:
2022 QB Declan Byle returns after putting up big numbers last year. He should have a more solid run game to make him more dangerous. 6'2 175 and holds a few offers.
2025 OT Kaden Strayhorn will likely be the #1 prospect in this class and should make an immediate impact for the Shamrocks. 6'4 255 lbs with 8 offers including Alabama.
2022 DT Michael Beydoun is a ferocious inside lineman who was dominant last year. As a senior he'll be much better and that's bad news for opponents. Shockingly he doesn't hold any offers yet.
2022 WR/DB Kam Davenport is one of the best 2-way skill players in the CHSL this year and was a tremendous weapon last year. 6'1 180 and picked up 4 D-II/NAIA offers this past July.
2022 WR Owen Semp was a dangerous target last year and picked up an NAIA and D-II offer this off-season.
2022 WR Raid Zerki comes in from St. Mary's and has shown to have an impact at CB as well. He's lethal in route running and should get plenty of catches this year.
2022 RB Mohamed Jaffer is the best returning RB in the Catholic League after fueling CC's ground game last year. Short but explosive and strong RB who can make something out of nothing.
2023 MLB Brayden Courser is a physical and aggressive wrecking ball at the position. 6'1 215 and is one the verge of a breakout season.
2022 DE Sean Field is 6' 230 and is too much for opposing OT's to handle. Had a very productive junior season in 2020.
2022 OC/DT Jayson Saad is 6' 275 and is a tremendous inside force. He had a big off-season and would expect him to have a breakout senior season.
2022 TE Connor Cohan was a big impact player for the Shamrocks last season and holds serious D-II, D-III, and NAIA interest.
Chippewa Valley:
2022 QB Ryan Schuster (Lafayette commit) returns for his senior season and will put up monster numbers. A calm and cool QB who can stand in the pocket and make throws or also escape the pocket and run well.
2022 WR Maddox Altamirano is a receiver who can lineup pretty much anywhere and has speed to burn. 6'1 170 lbs with a Marshall offer and D-II/NAIA offers.
2022 RB Cephus Harris (Youngstown State commit) is a big-play threat out of the backfield and can split out and be a major problem for opposing defenses.
2022 WR/S Zack Ernat will have a major role for the Big Reds on both sides of the ball. Safety is where he'll have the biggest impact but also the 6'3 190 lbs Ernat can make plays out wide at receiver.
2022 OT Zach Allison is a 6'4 280 lbs OT/DE who will anchor the offensive line for CV. A key player last year who earned a Lawrence Tech offer this summer.
2022 OG Griffin Bloch at 6'7 is a towering presence protecting the inside and certainly a player to know.
2023 TE/DE Tyler Bucholtz at 6'3 230 had a busy off-season getting ready for what should be a pretty big junior season for him. He's still growing and filling out his frame which is going to be bad news for opponents.
2024 DT Anthony Wright had an eye-opening freshman season and a just as important off-season. We've seen him run at MLB in 7on7 and the 5'11 255 lbs DT is no doubt on the verge of serious college interest.
2024 RB Shamar Heard is a speedster and dominated running track this off-season. Once Heard develops and grows further, he'll be absolutely lethal. 5'9 150 and holds a Syracuse offer.
2024 WR/CB Rayshaun Hester at 5'10 170 saw his recruiting process pickup this summer with offers from Bowling Green State and Marshall. We should expect to see his name a lot going forward.
2024 OLB Juan Jones Jr. is definitely one of the next great linebackers to come out of CV, we'll see if it's this year. 6'3 180.
