Madison football continues streak of qualifying for playoffs
For the 13th consecutive season, Madison Heights Madison’s football team has qualified for the playoffs.
At press time, the Eagles were 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Macomb Area Conference Silver Division, having already secured at least a share of a division championship.
Madison was scheduled to play Eastpointe High Oct. 14, after press time. A win would give Madison sole possession of the title.
The Eagles have proven themselves capable of getting it done both offensively and defensively this year, as after Week 7, they were averaging more than 36 points a game, while only giving up around 17 per contest.
Following a 23-12 win against Warren Fitzgerald Oct. 6, coach James Rogers offered some perspective on Madison’s season.
“It’s had its ups and downs,” he said. “We knew we were (going to) be a gunslinging team, a high-energy team.”
Rogers added that with a lot of different personalities, the Eagles are “finally starting to understand each other. They’re coming together as a team, and it’s awesome.”
The team dynamics have also not escaped the attention of junior quarterback Austin Brown.
“We’re playing more like a team and gaining that family-type relationship,” Brown said. “I think we’re doing great, and not relying so much on our offense. I think our defense has been carrying us for a little while, and they’ve been doing a great job.”

- Player Analysis
8/23/2017: After a storied 2 years at Detroit Catholic Central, Austin Brown came home to play at Madison High School. Brown is an extremely dangerous dual-threat QB who can not only run and throw well, but he has a cannon arm.
College interest: Brown was one of three 8th graders at the time to be offered by Akron. He has picked up two other MAC offers since and has heard from a lot of other schools. Colleges will be evaluating him even tougher now that he went to a smaller enrolled high school.
